The Figure 8 Knot

Use the figure-eight knot to form a larger knot at the end of a rope than would be formed by an overhand knot.

This knot prevents the end of the rope from slipping through a fastening or loop in another rope or from unreeving when reeved through blocks. It is easy to untie.
